When I was a couple of years younger, my parents would get upset at me when I would have tantrums on the tennis court because I missed a shot, or lost a game. I remember one day my Dad walked on the court and defaulted my match. They made me realize that I have so much to be grateful for and that some kids live in a hospital for a year or even two fighting for their life.
After learning more about St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, I was so amazed that the families never had to worry about paying bills for treatment, travel, housing or food. This allows the families to focus 100 percent on their children to live.
The treatments for pediatric cancer can last up to three years or more and cost on average $425,000. Eighty two cents of every dollar received from donations, research grants, insurance recoveries and investment returns goes to support the current and future needs of St. Jude. The donors can trust that their giving has helped save the lives of thousands of children.
That is why I made it my fight to give back to these kids so that they can get better and enjoy the pure physical pleasure of the pursuit with friends for life.
